A Landmark of Sustainable Energy

Inspired by the intricate study of sound propagation beneath the water's surface, the "Sonar" project reimagines the relationship between architecture, energy generation, and the marine environment.

This ambitious design centers its energy focus on the dramatic "bow" of a colossal, deep red vessel, seemingly anchored at the water's edge. This innovative prow is home to 16 micro-hydro turbines, strategically submerged to harness the kinetic energy of the seawater and generate clean, renewable power.

The very form of the vessel pays homage to the rich maritime history of Refshaleøen, likely an industrial or shipbuilding past, allowing its substantial presence to evoke a sense of heritage while looking towards the future. Its sheer scale, combined with the striking choice of a dark red hue, ensures that "Sonar" is an unmissable landmark from the Copenhagen waterfront, strongly characterizing the urban and natural landscape.

The design features a unique integration with its surroundings: the "bow" of the ship is immersed directly into the sea, while the remainder of the expansive structure appears to be artfully embedded within an artificial, undulating green hill. Within the exposed bow, a large, curving basin mirrors the vessel's form, acting as a visible interface with the water. Beneath the sea level, concealed within this basin, lies the powerful hydroelectric plant, discreetly harnessing the ocean's energy. The conceptual brilliance of "Sonar" extends to its physical manifestation.

The very notion of energy propagation underwater is envisioned as being "refracted" onto the ship's structure and the surrounding landscape. This metaphorical distortion is expressed through the design's fluid, curved surfaces that rise from the site, culminating in the integrated artificial hill.

This creates a dynamic and organic form that speaks to both the power it generates and the natural phenomena that inspired its inception. "Sonar" is not merely a building; it is a monumental fusion of engineering, art, and environmental consciousness, poised to become a symbol of sustainable innovation.
